ROSANNA MARIE PONDORF* PHANTOMBESITZ
18/02 - 18/03/2021
Rosa Stern Space presents the first edition of HEIMSPIEL – a series of individual presentations by team members of the space.
We are very pleased to announce PHANTOMBESITZ: A solo show by our founding member Rosanna Marie Pondorf. The exhibition features an installative interplay of her latest series of works.
When formats become form… Dying data. Alienated and detached. Masterfully bonding, massive and yet porous. Apparent banalities transform decisive moments, sculptural growth dynamics materialize the traces of central differences. Controlled gestures capture the fleeting codes of our media civilisation – a decontextualised digital jungle… brittle ballast or implicit threat? An entropic collage as a scenic spatial image. The perfect basis for splintering surfaces. The more subtle the more contoured. Never-ending streams of finance, porn and data – media shock waves fed by colliding powers and their prey. Analogue responses to digital systems that make physical and virtual data worlds visible and expose their implications, stage the media overkill of moving images and shut down the streams.
Rosanna Marie Pondorf (*1993) lives and works in Munich. In her recent practice she experiments with different materials and techniques: devalued euro notes, marble, Polypropylene foil, ink, laser engravings, screenshots. Ephemeral media as both material (basis) and archive of inscribed and reproducing power structures, and its impact on our communication and body. By extracting, deconstructing and recoding motifs from the wide range of ready-made media images, her works reveal and mediate their aesthetical rhythms and socio-political dimensions in our present.
She is currently studying graphics with Peter Kogler at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. In 2017 she founded Rosa Stern together with Simon Sternal. Her work has been shown among others at the European Patent Office (Munich), the HBK Gallery (Saarbrücken) and at Eksperimenta (Tallinn).
