MATTHIAS R. ZAUSINGER* IT'S LIKE TWO WORLDS FOR ME
27/04 – 30/04/2021
Rosa Stern presents the 4th edition of TESTSPIEL: a series of short interventions by local artists using the space and architectural structure of Rosa Stern Space for the production of new works. The focus shifts to the artistic process and the production set becomes the exhibited work.
Our guest will be Munich based artist Mathias R. Zausinger, who will show an interactive video setting, that offers the opportunity to interact with fragments of his research materials and become part of a space that is stressing the illusion of movement.
„it’s like two worlds for me“ is an audio-visual environment, which confronts the participants, performers and visitors with fragments of rhetoric aesthetics. Rhetoric aesthetic is a concept of the 18th century fresco painting and addresses the question of how images are organized, in order to inspire trust within looking at the images. The displayed image material that has originally been designed to immerse one’s perception into the iconographic cosmos of the 18th century will be shown in one-hour performative sessions. Using fragments of these images during the installation will provide the opportunity to react to and reflect on affective qualities. Live video and sound will allow us to use our own movement and voice to react to the given visual content while stage the process of immersing and re-appearing.
Mathias R. Zausinger (*1989) studied Philosophy and Fine Arts in Berlin, Munich and Lisbon. His practice is an essayistic videography that examines the political dimension of immersive phenomena and virtual reality. Observing historical and current social constellations with a postcolonial perspective. His current research focuses on the paradigmatic relationship between art, rhetoric and power in the aesthetic discourse of the “baroque”. In this context, recently the installations VESSELS AND WIDGETS (Jahn und Jahn, Munich), PUTTING THE LAST STONE (Hefei City Prison, Hefei, CN) and DAGGERS MIGHT RIDE (AADK Spain, Murcia, ES) were shown.
