SERGEY SHABOHIN* SOCIAL MARBLE: NATIONALIZATION OF FREEDOM
25/06 – 25/07/2021
Rosa Stern is proud to present the second edition of FREISPIEL: a series of short-term residencies and presentations by international artists dealing with issues of cultural orders and their aesthetic and socio-political influences in our future-driven present.
Our second guest will be Poznan based artist Sergey Shabohin. His cycle of works "We are grim consumers of cultural revolutions" is dedicated to understanding the consumer attitude towards the heritage of the historical avant-garde in Belarus. Fragments of this cycle are combined in the exhibition with his other dynamic, artistic archive on the Belarusian democracy movement: "Social Marble". The tragic events currently taking place in Belarus reinforce in this project the critical optics chosen by the artist.
Sergey Shabohin (b. 1984) from Novopolotsk, Belarus. Artist, curator, art-activist, critic, chief editor of the portal of contemporary Belarusian art — Art Aktivist, co-founder and editor in chief of the platform of contemporary Belarusian art — KALEKTAR. Shabohin’s works explore the following topics: critique of the cultural system and art history, creation of authorial museums and archives, revealing of invisible history, the category of fear and social body in Belarusian society. Works and lives in Poznan and Berlin.
many many thanks to Kulturreferat München for making this project possible!
